An Effective Guide on Facebook Ads CTR

Defining the average CTR for Facebook ads can be tricky as it varies based on your industry, audience, and funnel stage. But when it comes to Facebook advertising, clicks drive everything from campaign costs to acquisition costs.

This article explains everything you need to know about CTR for Facebook ads. Depending on the intricacy of the targeting, the ad’s creative, and how well it performs, ad clicks can increase or decrease costs. You need to understand this metric to improve your ad result at a lower cost.

What Is CTR on Facebook?

The click-through rate (CTR) is a Facebook Ad metric that calculates the proportion of clicks to impressions for each ad. The clicks refer to how often a user clicked on your ad, while impression denotes the frequency of your ad displayed on the platform.

In general, the CTR metric measures the percentage of the overall users we can class as “clicked” by a paid or sponsored ad.

How Does Facebook Calculate Click-Through Rate?

Facebook divides the total number of clicks on an ad by the total number of impressions to determine your CTR. The outcome is multiplied by 100 to convert it to a percentage.

Suppose your ad is viewed by 5000 people (number of impressions) and 500 people (number of clicks) who click on the ad. Then Facebook divides 500 by 5000, and the result is 0.1. This outcome is multiplied by 100 to get your ad CTR percentage, which is 10%.

How to Find Your CTR on Facebook?

To determine the CTR for each of your Facebook ads, follow these steps:

  • Log into your account and go to Facebook Ads Manager.
  • Click the “Ads” tab from the top left side.
  • Select the timeframe you wish to view.
  • Click on the Columns dropdown and choose Performance and Clicks.
  • Then scroll right
  • Scroll to the right until you find the “CTR (All) column.”

What Is the Average CTR for Facebook Ads?

It can be challenging to pinpoint the average click-through rate for Facebook ads. This is because everyone has a different perspective on what benchmarks to aim for. However, if we consider a few past studies, the result stands as follows.

According to a 2017 study, Facebook ads across all industries have an average CTR of 0.90%. But the same report also revealed that the CTRs differ by industry. The highest average CTR was for the legal industry at 1.61%, while employment and job training had the lowest average CTR at 0.47%.

According to a more recent analysis by AdStage in 2019, the median CTR of Facebook News Feed ads was 1.33%. Note that average and median are two alternative ways of calculating the data to generate benchmarks. It explains the significant difference between the two studies.

Using the data from these two studies, we can estimate that the average Facebook ads CTR should lie between 0.90 and 1.33%.
