The Correct Spelling of Committee

This word comes from Latin committere, which indicates spelling it with double t.

The name was later used in Middle English as committe, where double he remained.

This spelling, therefore, is correct – also with double t and double e due to modern pronunciation.

Some people claim committee is used in British English and commitee for American English, and you can feel free to utilize either. However, this isn’t true. The precise way to spell this word is by typing double “M” and double “E.”
