The Three Daily Scrum Meeting Questions

Scrum meetings are all routine meetings held by scrum teams…

Scrum meetings are all routine meetings held by scrum teams to ensure more efficient product management and development with total transparency and autonomy.

Attendees are individuals who are involved in the development of a product. The three daily scrum meeting questions aim to inspect, ensure transparency, measure adaptation, and analyze blockers.

Scrum meeting questions form the basis for a story card and usually revolve around keeping the project within the scope. The primary purpose of scrum meeting questions is to get everyone involved in the discussion loop. This guide discusses the three scum meeting questions.

What Is A Scrum Meeting?

A scrum meeting, also known as daily scrum or stand-up, is usually scheduled every morning. It is a short meeting, typically 15 minutes, used to organize the work that needs to be completed in the next iteration. All scrum team members, including the product owner, scrum master, and development team, are participants.

Scrum meetings aim to communicate a person’s work progress and a projected level of completion until the next scrum meeting. During this meeting, the team evaluates its performance in fulfilling the sprint goals and addresses any backlogs. Through a set of three daily Scrum questions, they learn about the goals, work that needs completion, etc.

Scrum Meeting Questions

Teams evaluate their performance over the last 24 hours and the upcoming 24 hours’ potential by asking scrum questions routinely in the morning. Typically, scrum meeting questions focus on how the roadmap can be changed to yield better value and efficiency.

Scrum meetings offer you the chance to clarify tasks and rectify issues. Since scrum meetings only last about fifteen minutes, answers to the questions should be brief. If you have any concerns about your task, the scrum meeting is the time to discuss them.

The 3 Scrum questions are:

1. What did you do yesterday?

This question is asked to analyze the team’s commitment to given tasks and to gauge the team’s progress. Using this question, the team understands the progress and accomplishment of the current sprint.

The question reveals the following about the project.

  • If team members are clear on their tasks.
  • If they are spending their time on pointless pursuits, a day of meetings or laborious data entry, for instance.
  • The various working methods of each team member. For instance, Martha likes to take her time with a task to produce the highest quality results. On the other hand, Hilary is all about doing tasks swiftly and effectively.

2. What will you do today?

Eliminating pointless tasks is one of this question’s essential purposes. The list is purged of tasks that do not advance the team’s objective. And the day’s duties may be switched if the first query reveals any dependent changes.

The Scrum master can determine what tasks will begin by asking this question. The team may be off course if they only work on ongoing projects rather than starting new ones frequently.

This question helps to:

  • Keep everyone informed about their specific tasks.
  • Identify and resolve any inadvertent task overlap.
  • Uncover tasks that everyone assumed were being handled by someone else but were not.

3. Is there anything hindering your progress?

There could be several obstacles in the team’s path to success. For example, the team may not have access to the required technology, or it may not be functioning properly. The management would need to make the necessary arrangements in such a situation.

The programmers can also be required to attend a lot of pointless meetings. To enable the team to finish the work quickly, the scrum master works to remove any such bottlenecks.

If you’re facing difficulties with progressing your task, this is the place to raise it and request assistance. Things to mention here include:

  •  Technical challenges (like system repairs or power blackouts)
  • Personal problems (like illness or personal responsibilities)
  • Difficulties involving teams (like a shortage of people for vital roles or ego clashes).
  • Project-related difficulties (like struggling to learn something)

Wrapping Up

The Daily Scrum Meeting is common amongst teams adopting the agile scrum methodology. It occurs roughly the same time daily and serves as a crucial communication tool for team members.

The team obtains a great knowledge of the completed work and the work that needs to be done. It does this by concentrating on what each individual performed the previous day and will accomplish in the present day. The daily scrum meeting is where team members commit to one another.
