    How Do You Spell 50?

50 is a number that exists between 49 and 51. This is a number that marks the exact halfway through 100.

But how do you spell 50? Are you confident about the spelling you write?

Fifty” is the correct and standardized English spelling, while “fivety” is a misspelling. It is a 2-syllable word fif-ty with the stress on the first syllable.

While the number 5 can be spelled as Five, why 50 can’t it be Fivety? The answer to your question is in their pronunciation.

The phonetic transcription of 5 is /fʌɪv/, which sounds like [FYV]. However, the phonetic transcription of 50 is /ˈfɪfti/, which is a different sound, pronounced as [fif·tee]. If you write 50 as fivety, it would sound like [FYV·ty], which doesn’t make sense.

Write the first syllable “fif” and add “-ty” to it to spell the words right.

    Example Sentence

The number 50 is defined as the product of five and ten. It is denoted as half of one hundred. An example sentence is as follows:

    • Fifty percent of the work was completed.

    Points to Remember

    1. We don’t use numbers names in geometry or to denote temperature. For example, we must write it as 50 degrees.

    2. The strategy for spelling out 50 is not true for the number 90. The correct form is “Ninety,” not “ninty.” It’s not necessary that the spelling will always change in the same way.

    To Wrap Up

“Fifty” is the correct spelling. Any other variation is a mistake. Getting this word misspelled is easy, but it’s easier to get it right if you know the trick. To spell the word correctly, you can either remember the pronunciation or just write fif and add -ty to it.
